What would you do with $150,000? (Meme)

This is another very easy Meme. I made this one up. First for a little background...

The Republican National Committee in their infinite wisdom spent about $150,000 on Gov. Sarah Palins wardrobe. Yes, they are throwing money out the window. They bought most of her clothes form Neiman Marcus & Saks Fifth Avenue. I'm all for Pretty Palin looking fine, but couldn't they have bought clothes at JCPenney, and Macy's for a fraction of the cost? Now they are saying that they will donate the wardrobe to the poor.

Give her wardrobe to the poor?! I can do a lot better then that! It's simple. Sell her wardrobe on eBay. Sell it one outfit at a time. Gov. Palin is a Republican rock star, and an historical figure. People will pay big bucks for the clothes she has worn. I bet they could easily triple that $150,000. THEN give the money to FoodLink, or some other food based charity. In the Rochester area, people attending food cupboards have increased 30% recently. You can buy an igloos worth of canned goods for $150,000+.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth. Now about the Meme. It's simple, just answer the question "what you would to with $150,000", and make sure to give some background info. You can do it off the top of your head, no need to get out the calculator unless you want to. Then pass this Meme along to a few others. Simple!

As for me, I would use my $150,000 for the following...

1.) Get out of debt. Yes, I ran up the credit cards like most of us did. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the debt that I owe.
2.) Go back to College. Heck, for that kind of money I could get a Master degree, and earn an income 3 times as much as my (C.N.A.) Certified Nursing Assistants certificate allows me.
3.) Buy a new car. Nothing expensive, I need the money for other things.
4.) Give some money to my relatives. Especially the older ones in their 70's & 80's that won't be around much longer. :o(
5.) Give some to Food Link. People really need help now.
6.) Put some in a good retirement fund, and some in the bank.
7.) If I have any left over I might put a down payment on a house. It's a buyers market. A lake side cottage, or house would be perfect.

I tag everyone on my top commenter's list, plus everyone else who has left a comment this month.

P.S. Folks if you can spare any money, or even have some extra food around the house please give to Foodlink, or your local food cupboard. Some people are really hurting now. Believe me, I know.

Give it to the poor -- and doesn't that just prove how out of touch the Republican Party is? What POOR person has any need or use for a $1,000 suit or a pair of $500 shoes?

You're damn skippy -- sell the crap and donate the MONEY to charity. But they wouldn't do that -- if they got their hand on the money, they'd keep it for sure.

And let's just look at the fact that they SPENT this money on her in the first place! How much good could that money have done at FoodLink or WIC or something like that? What's wrong with her OWN clothes? What -- they figure they dress her better, it makes her LOOK more credible? Then what? She wears her own Target or Hot Topic clothes and the American people can look at her and say "Look at those clothes, boy were we wrong!!?!?!"

Puh-leeeze!

Hi Pat,

Not only did they miss the boat in giving money to the poor, but now the McCain campaign is broke. Obama is getting a truck load of money. He is out spending McCain in some state by 3, 4, even 5 times. What they did doesn't even make good sense for the McCain/Palin ticket. Someone over there needs to put their thinking cap on.

Hi Liquid,

Why run?

"And let's just look at the fact that they SPENT this money on her in the first place! How much good could that money have done "

Obama's campaign has spent $208 million more than McCain's. That's 1800 times as much as was blown blown on Palin's duds.

How much good could that money have done. Maybe, just maybe, a little more than the good that could be done by the Palin clothing fund.

seems to be lots of dumb decisions being made by political parties right now as both our coutries get ready for an election

I think its disgusting that politicians can spend that amount of money when so many are facing financial ruin right now

dmarks said...

One of the worst is that both parties get huge amounts of government money to run their conventions. This should be $0.

I'm trying to find the cost of Apollo's Temple in Denver at the DNC convention. The only number I have found so far is $6.

Geez. I'm sure some church would have been glad to lend Obama a pulpit or podium for free.

By the way, here is my Ellen post you asked about

But it is not really substantive.

If I had $150,000 of someone else's donated money I would abandon my family, over look or encourage my child to get pregnant to snag a man, then I would agree to run for a political position that I am in no way qualified for.

Then I would shop at some of the most expensive off the rack stores so I can look like the Washington elite that I claim not the be a part of.

Then I will only address the nations Joes and forget about the Janes because my womanly ways to beguile only work on the men of America, don't cha kno!

ummm that's it... energy, energy, mavrik, mavrik ;) ;)

I tried switching teams. It didnt take.

First of all Obama didn't spend $208 million on clothes.

The only reason that the McCain campaign said she they were giving the money to charity is that they caught red handed. They were caught spending an adsorbent amount on Gov. Palin wardrobe.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi S'onnie,

Your new picture is adorable!

Yes, it just makes them look out of touch with the people, and economy when they spend like that.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi meleah rebeccah,

Wow, I appreciate you honestly. That brings up so many questions, but might not be appropriate for me to ask on a blog.

I'd do much of what you have on your list. Didn't know about foodlink and am gonna check it out.

The foodlink link is broken :(

"First of all Obama didn't spend $208 million on clothes. "

The amount I'd head for for Obama's Green temple was $6 million, not $6.

"The only reason that the McCain campaign said she they were giving the money to charity is that they caught red handed. They were caught spending an adsorbent amount on Gov. Palin wardrobe"

I'd heard right off that they had been giving the clothing to charity right away, from the beginning. Long before it was reported. But perhaps that was in error. Anything more substantive on this?

dmarks said...

argh. greek temple. Not good at typing today.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Doc Deb,

I was just thinking about you. Good thoughts. ;o) Yes, I checked the original link, and it seems to be down. Odd. ?

Well, if you want to give locally, you could probably get an online list. If not then try your local library. Good luck!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi dmarks,

It was the DNC convention. I think that it was a football field made to look like a Greek temple. Those pillars were fake. Sure he put a lot of money into it. It was the DNC convention. It had great significance to the campaign. That's where campaign money should go!

"Anything more substantive?" That's what I'd like to ask you. I have my links in my post including the original New York Times article that broke the news about Palins wardrobe. Where is your link proving that the McCain Campaign intend to give her clothes to the poor from the beginning?

dmarks said...

It was something I heard somewhere. I look further, and can't find anything to back it up from another source, so I do now lean toward "giving it to charity after they were caught"

But I still don't see how a $6 million podium is "good" and clothing/makeup worn on the campaign trail is "bad".

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi LadyBanana,

As I read your post I see the dollar shrink. LOL!

I hope that you do the Meme. I'd be interested to see what YOU would do with all that money. ;o)

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Lady Banana (Diana),

You don't have to spend it all. However, I think that I did. LOL!

Hi meleah rebeccah,

I was wondering why you tried to switch teams? Also why didn't it take? What sexual orientation do you consider yourself today? Feel free to answer via e-mail if you feel more comfortable. I know these are personal questions.

Hey meleah rebeccah,

Nosy little bugger aren't I?

Excellent idea about eBay... someone needs to insert some brains into the Republican Party, no doubt!!

What I would do: pay off my (husband's) debt. Sadly, that's as far as we could get with 150K, as chiropractic school is expensive!!

Hi WannabeMommy,

Ah, a chiropractor! That sounds like a good job. It is probably fairly recession proof too. I wish the best to him in his studies. Maybe a lotto ticket would help too. ;o)

I was curious. And I thought I was in love with this one girl named Roxy.

"Also why didn't it take?"

Cuz I like man parts too much.

"What sexual orientation do you consider yourself today?"

Straight.

Hi meleah rebeccah,

Thanks for getting back to me. ;o)

Personally for me, it's about the emotional connection & communication that I have with women, that I don't have with men. Although the sex can be great too! ;o)
