Honest Scrap Award & 10 things about me

I received the same award from three people. That's a record! :) I want to thank each of them for thinking of me. Lady Banana, Momma Mia, Mea Culpa and WIXY's Gone Bananas

The honorees of this award are to:

A) first list 10 honest things about yourself - and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep!

B) pass the award on to 7 bloggers that you feel embody the spirit of the Honest Scrap.

10 honest things about me.

1) I've composed music since the age of 13. The music comes to me from out of the blue. I can even be on the toilet. If I don't have a tape recorder with me, I forget the song. Most of it is Gospel.

2) I have poor self discipline, but can be driven by the heart.

3) When I was young I had a crush on the leading ladies in soap operas. Looking back I realize it was a sign that I was gay. I still have a crush on Dr. Marlena Evans of "Days."

4) I took care of my mother during the last year of her life, and was with her when she died. It's one of the few things that I'm proud of.

5) Sometimes I wash my hands so much that my hand towel is soaking wet. I think it's because I'm a CNA. I don't think I'm OCD. I don't like getting COD's. It POs me.

6) I have a thing for female Libra's.... (ok Libra's reading this, you can stop smiling now.)

7) I have no sense if direction. Put me in the back yard, spin me around, and I may not be able to find my own house, ah, apartment.

8) I equate suicide with depression, and keep forget that I could be depressed even though I don't feel like putting a gun to my head. I forget that often.

9) I don't have children, that I know of.

10) I don't like the concept of time. Why is it that I can walk forward and backwards in space, but we can't go forward & backwards in time? Does that bother anyone else? Time should be like my VCR or DVD. Time is a bad idea. Everything is so final here on earth.

I pass this Award on to....

How Do You Do Christmas?

I found this holiday meme at Momma Mia, Mea Culpa blog, and really liked it! I got permission from blog owner Meleah Rebeccah to use it. I will use a condensed version. Meleah is trying to figure out which new profile photo to use for the coming year. She is looking for feedback. It was a difficult decision for me because she is drop dead gorgeous, and highly photogenic. What do you think? Click here to vote!

How Do You Do Christmas?

1. Real tree or artificial?
Artificial.

2. Favorite gift received as a child?

8. Favorite Christmas song?

9. Do you celibate Christmas at your home, or do you travel?

Sugar Snap Peas (Poem Meme)

Folks, I was very fortunate to get a good guest poet to write this poem. Guess who the poet is? Before I write the poem, let me explain how this came about. Actually, it's a bit complicated so with Jaffer's permission the majority of "The Story" has been taken from his post. He explained it well.

The Story

Olga the Travelling Bra, Jaffer, and I were talking about Sugar Snap Peas yesterday on Twitter, which all started from Jenn’s post about a salad bar in la-la land. Besides being busy globe-trotting, Olga wants everybody to toss that bag of chips out the window and start eating healthy.

One way to begin is to try a bag of Sugar Snap Peas. And because Olga wants you to at least try some, Jaffer proposed that we do a meme. But what kind of meme ?
I suggested writing a short poem and Jaffer jumped on the idea.

So if you are seeking a healthier life and add your artistic creativity to that, then grab a bag of sugar snaps and try your hand in composing a sonnet or a quatrain or an ode describing your experiences.

Make it funny, romantic or sarcastic, we want to see them all !

Need more inspiration ? Read Olga’s poem ! And Jaffer's poem too!

Here is the poem by the mystery poet. Can you guess who s/he is?

Sugar Snap peas
You are such a tease
Your green crunchy yum
Makes me full in the tum
But one too many makes it
all fall out my bum.

A special note of thanks to Jeffer & the mystery poet who essentially wrote this post. ;o)

What would you do with $150,000? (Meme)

This is another very easy Meme. I made this one up. First for a little background...

The Republican National Committee in their infinite wisdom spent about $150,000 on Gov. Sarah Palins wardrobe. Yes, they are throwing money out the window. They bought most of her clothes form Neiman Marcus & Saks Fifth Avenue. I'm all for Pretty Palin looking fine, but couldn't they have bought clothes at JCPenney, and Macy's for a fraction of the cost? Now they are saying that they will donate the wardrobe to the poor.

Give her wardrobe to the poor?! I can do a lot better then that! It's simple. Sell her wardrobe on eBay. Sell it one outfit at a time. Gov. Palin is a Republican rock star, and an historical figure. People will pay big bucks for the clothes she has worn. I bet they could easily triple that $150,000. THEN give the money to FoodLink, or some other food based charity. In the Rochester area, people attending food cupboards have increased 30% recently. You can buy an igloos worth of canned goods for $150,000+.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth. Now about the Meme. It's simple, just answer the question "what you would to with $150,000", and make sure to give some background info. You can do it off the top of your head, no need to get out the calculator unless you want to. Then pass this Meme along to a few others. Simple!

As for me, I would use my $150,000 for the following...

1.) Get out of debt. Yes, I ran up the credit cards like most of us did. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about the debt that I owe.
2.) Go back to College. Heck, for that kind of money I could get a Master degree, and earn an income 3 times as much as my (C.N.A.) Certified Nursing Assistants certificate allows me.
3.) Buy a new car. Nothing expensive, I need the money for other things.
4.) Give some money to my relatives. Especially the older ones in their 70's & 80's that won't be around much longer. :o(
5.) Give some to Food Link. People really need help now.
6.) Put some in a good retirement fund, and some in the bank.
7.) If I have any left over I might put a down payment on a house. It's a buyers market. A lake side cottage, or house would be perfect.

I tag everyone on my top commenter's list, plus everyone else who has left a comment this month.

P.S. Folks if you can spare any money, or even have some extra food around the house please give to Foodlink, or your local food cupboard. Some people are really hurting now. Believe me, I know.

Bring Out Your Bears (or other toys - Meme)

Deborah at Debo Hobo dot Com tagged me for this fun, and easy Meme. This one is very flexible so anyone can do it. Just post an old photo of a bear, or other stuffed toy that you liked as a kid. If you didn't have a stuffed animal then you can substitute a doll, or some other toy. If you don't have a photo you can borrow one from the Internet like I did. Then just tell us a bit about your old toy, and tag 2 or more other people.

I use to have a black cat that had a radio inside it. I didn't care for stuffed animals, but I liked the radio. I loved dolls, and toy guns. I had so many dolls in bed with me that I barely fit in bed. ;o)

7 Things About Me (Meme)

Recently LadyBanana asked me a question which I have answered here. I have noticed that some people have done the Meme "7 Things About Me." I thought that I would use that Meme to answer her question, it's in the first one. Thanks for asking LB! ;o)

1.) LB asked, "I know you are a very private person but I'd love to know more about what keeps Awake, awake!!! ;)" I had a previous night job. Even though I now work different shifts, I can easily slip into the night mode. Also I have occasional insomnia. So you will see me online at all different times.

2.) I have named my old computer. She's "my old lady".

3.) I like short term real life searching games. For example, when I lose my keys it's like a game to me. I keep calm, and start searching. If I find them right off the bat, I am sometimes disappointed. Of course if I need to be at work I might not be into the searching game. (Maybe I should have been a private detective?) ;o)

4.) You may have wondered why I am discreet here. It's for several reasons. I'm naturally a private person, and don't feel comfortable talking a great deal about myself. I'm semi-out of the closet, but not out at work. Also I have a former stalker who lives in my area that I don't want to alert. That's why I don't use my real name, or have my photo up.

5.) I've composed music since I was 13. Many of my songs are gospel related. Not to sound conceded, but I honestly think a few songs would hit the top 10 on the gospel charts.

6.) I wash my hands so much I sometimes soak my towel. I guess that's from being a Nursing Assistant for many years.

7) I must have a common face. People sometimes approach me thinking I'm someone else. Either that, or my parents gave away my twin. ;o) Example - In a restaurant a woman came over to my table. She thought I was her niece. It was only when she got up close to me that she realized that I wasn't. I have been mistaken for someone else several times. Other times some people say that I "look familiar". I tell them that "I guess I just have one of those faces."

I'm not going to pass this meme on, but if you want to do it, go right ahead!

Ladybanana tagged me with this meme - It's all about ME! I'm going to have a bit of fun with it.

I am: that I am. (Talking about Him.)

I know: Less then I had hope to know at this point in my life.
I have: A good car, it runs.
I wish: I were financially comfortable, not rich, but extremely comfortable.
I hate: No one. I hate killing. I hate war.
I miss: The old days. Vacation with all my family on our waterfront property when I was a kid.
I fear: To often
I hear: TV - About how Japanese are peace loving, but changing. Peace for 60 years!? Don't change!
I smell: Pancakes & sausage
I crave: More pancakes & sausage
I search: For a job that I really enjoy with very good pay.
I wonder: How people can look at the beauty of nature and not believe in God.
I regret: Much, and don't understand those who say, "I have no regrets."
I love: More then I say.
I ache: When I hear of those who are wounded, and died in the Iraq war.
I am not: Bad, but I know someone who is. ;o) (inside joke.)
I believe: That God will help me.
I dance: Sometimes when I watch the Ellen Show. (Shh, don't tell!)
I sing: In the shower - Figaro, Figaro, Figaro, Figaro.
I cry: About once a month. If you know what I mean.
I fight: I'm a lover, not a fighter.
I win: Not to often.
I lose: To often
I never: Never say never. ;o)
I always: Try my best at work....or almost always.
I confuse: Myself sometimes
I listen: To the oldies on the radio.
I can usually be found: At Home
I am scared: Of silly things sometimes.
I need: Others more then I realize.
I am happy about: Having Air conditioning. It was 90 today!
I imagine: A world at peace. Where we love on another without ridicule, follow the Golden rule, and otherwise let people be. Ah, my dream.

My 6 Word Memoir

I was tagged by Ladybanana to do the 6 word memoir. This looks like a fun one. I have recently taken an online free personality quiz at Personal DNA, and decided to base this on my results. I have scored high, or slightly high in these traits. It goes into more detail then pictured. By the way I found this quiz at Ladybanana's blog.

First, here are the Rules:

1.)Write your own six word memoir.
2.)Post it on your blog; include a visual illustration if you'd like.
3.)Link to the person that tagged you in your post, and to the original post if possible.
4.)Tag at least five more blogs with links.
5.)Leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!

So here's the 6 word memoir...

Considerate, thinker, empathetic, functional, trusting, caring

I tag the following people:

About a nurse

Against the Grain

Dr. Deb

Eastcoastlife

Forging Iron Man

Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow

Note: You don't need to take the Personal DNA quiz to do this meme.
