No Work Till Jan. 1st

I called my agency today. Things have been slow for months. I've had to stop paying credit cards to keep a roof over my head. I've had to skip paying some bills, so I will soon get double, and triple bills. I haven't slept well because of all this. And I'm not even telling you the worst of it.

Today my agency told me that the main facility I work at is not offering any more work until January 1st. What a shock! I might get a little work elsewhere, but that's the main place. I'm applying for another job, but even if someplace wanted to hire me tomorrow it would be a 6-8 week wait before they could. I'm in health care field, and they do a police background check which takes time. Then they hold the 1st paycheck at a job. Not a good situation.

I grew up an only child in a large house. My parents expected to have more children, but couldn't. I had everything I ever wanted, and then some. I had so many dolls in my bed that there was hardly any room for me. A whole room was converted into my playroom complete with miniature pool table, and huge toy chest. I was spoiled, and didn't know it.

Although I've worked as a Nursing Assistant I've never really had financial problems. Not like this. Not until recently. Now I'm one of those people who stand in line at the food bank (cupboard) hoping that they don't run out of certain items before I get there. I'd never thought I'd have to do that. I never thought I'd be here. This Thanksgiving might be the first Thanksgiving in my life that I won't have Turkey. I can't afford it.

At any rate, I don't want you to feel sorry for me; but I would GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR PRAYERS!!!

P.S. I want to thank those of you who give to your local food bank, or donate your time. It's noticed, and appreciated! ;o)

UPDATE: Jan 2, 2009
My agency now says that the lost of their main client might be permanent.

I hope things will get better for you. I hope things will get better for all of us!

I'm grateful for what I do have and have managed to hold on to, but I hope things get better, and hopefully with less of the two steps forward and one step back and more of the continuing steps forward.

Have you ever thought about writing an eBook on your downtime and try to make some extra cash selling that? If you have the time to do it, it's something you can do that's not going to necessarily cost you any money. Just something to think about.

Hmmm... that really sucks! That's over a month. I would definately try the other places. There should ALWAYS be work in nursing!

Yeah, I was spoiled, too. Now I am finding out the real world is hard--especially in this Great Depression II we are starting!

Gulp... Brother, can you spare a quarter?

Oh dear you are in my thoughts. I hope you can find some other kind of work to tide you over until the new year (or longer if you need it)

Hi, dcr,

I'm hoping that next year is a much better year for everyone. ;o)

eBook? I think that I read one once, but I don't know the first thing about it.

Hi Jedi Master Daryl,

It looks like CNA's are plentiful in my area. It's not like the good old days when I could walk into any facility, and get a job.

"Gulp... Brother, can you spare a quarter?" LOL! Hey, didn't Bing sing that song? He's one of my favorite singers of all time! ...That give me an idea for my next post.

I am so sorry to read this. These are bad times for many people.

You know, and I'm sure you don't need me to tell you, that God will turn this into something really good for you. We all need to go through stuff we wish we didn't, but God uses it for our good - always!

I pray that you find work soon. Maybe look for something as a stop gap, not in nursing? Just to get some immediate money, until January.

Of course I will pray for you. BTW. What exactly is a 'Food Bank'?

I am so sorry AiR. I know this time of the year can be tough for everybody !

I know you can pull through this. Don't loose your cool and most importantly your faith in God.

I'll say a prayer for you.

Sorry sweetie. Me and hubs are in the same situation right now and it sucks donkey balls.

Wish I could help us both out, but all I can offer you is prayers and support. Hang in there.

Good luck. I'm sure all will work out for the best. Even though it's not our plan it is God's plan for you to go through what you are going through. You will come out the other side stronger, happier and re focused on what's important.

Check your mail. Get your turkey!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi dmarks,

I'm sorry to hear that. I will say a prayer for you tonight.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Posh Totty,

Aw, thanks for the hugs, and good thoughts. ;o)

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Babs (Beetle),

Thanks for the encouraging words. I know that God is able to turn things around. HE is my hope right now!

A 'Food Bank' is where people go to get donated food. They usually have to prove that they don't make much financially.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Jaffer,

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't lost my faith in God. I know that he can turn this around on a dime. ;o)

Thanks for the prayers!

Hi Giggle Pixie,

I'm sorry that you & your hubby are in the same boat & will say a prayer.

I greatly appreciate your prayers! It means alot to me. Thanks!

PS- "Sucks donkey balls" LOL!!!

Hi Debo Hobo,

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, God has something good in store, I just can't see it now.

Babs & Mo,

That was completely unexpected! I don't even have a donation button on my blog. Thank you both so much!!!

The local food bank is one of our pet projects at our school. I never thought I'd actually have to USE it.
(hubs has been out of work for three months. Pretty much sucks. )

Vodka Mom said...

Hey- I'm saying a prayer for you, too. God works in mysterious ways, doesn't He?

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Vodka Mom,

I'm sorry to hear that your in the same boat. My there are lots more passengers in this boat then I thought. Hey, do you need a paddle? I have an extra. ;o)

Yes, God does work in very odd, ah, mysterious ways.

I'll put you on my prayer list too.

Maybe we should all put our heads together and try to come up with a money making idea? Something online?

LadyBanana said...

That's dreadful not to have any work till January! I'm so surprised as people surely still need taking care of!

I wish you could come and work with me, I far too much to do in my little job..

Seriously though, I do hope something turns up for you. Could you not consider doing something a bit different just to tide you over?

My thoughts are with you X

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi LadyBanana,

Is there an opening where you work? I'll be right over! ;o) I wish I could.

Apparently the financial crisis is starting to hit the health care field. I work for an agency, so I'm a relief staff person. The facilities that I go to have to pay my agency more then they would pay their regular staff on over time. Of course I don't see all that money, the agency does. I guess that the facilities are cutting back, and using their own people to save money.

The experts on TV say that the worst has not hit America yet. Things are suppose to get worse. Ek!

I might have to look for another job in another field. At least temporarily. The thing is that I've done this work for about 20 years. I don't have any experience in another field. My resume is all about CNA type work. But I might have to look around. God will pull me out of this mess somehow.

I very much appreciate your good thoughts & the hug. ;o) X

Hi Greeneyezz,

So far my spirits are good. ;o) I just need to get some money flowing in so they don't start canceling things.
