California same-sex weddings and Ellen VS. McCain

California gay weddings start today. Hallelujah! Here are some snippiest from various newspapers about it. At the end is a YouTube video from the Ellen Degeneres Show where she interviews John McCain about same-sex marriage. I think that she did a wonderful job. It's only 3 minutes long, and well worth seeing.

California wedding one more step on long road -

This evening, some county clerks in California will stay open late to start issuing marriage licenses and officiating the exchange of vows for gay and lesbian couples - the first of thousands of same-sex marriages expected in the coming days.

It's a bold step that has been hailed by many gay-rights advocates as a significant milestone while being attacked by opponents as an unmistakable sign of societal decay.

As of Friday evening, 646 same-sex couples had booked appointments to get marriage licenses at San Francisco City Hall over the next 10 days... But the latest wave of same-sex marriages may be short-lived. The court's ruling could be undone when California voters are asked on Nov. 4 to decide an initiative sponsored by conservative religious and legal organizations...

Calif. same-sex weddings will affect other states -

New Yorkers heading west for weddings have a big advantage over most other non-California same-sex couples. New York Gov. David Paterson has stipulated that state law requires recognition of legal marriages performed elsewhere, including same-sex unions.

Most other states have statutes or constitutional amendments specifying that marriage is between a man and a woman, and denying recognition to same-sex unions. The federal government also doesn't recognize such unions...

California economy boosted by gay marriage bonanza -

California's economy is poised for a multi-million-dollar windfall as same-sex marriages get underway here Monday, with the tourist sector eyeing a bonanza as gays and lesbians flock to the state to tie the knot...

Hi asthepumpturns,

That's right you live in California. I have never seen a same-sex wedding. I sure would like to hear about it. That would make for an interesting post!

It's good that people can live they way they choose, we have had it here for a while now..

Hi LadyBanana,

Is it legal to marry in England? I knew that it is in Canada. Well, I guess we are doing it the hard way; one state at a time.

Can you imagine if they repeal it in November. All those people will be married in the site of the law, and have equal rights one day. Then considered not married, and have their rights taken away the next day. I think that even most Americans have to find that unfair.

Yep it's legal in UK.. They call it a civil partnership, they go through a legally binding ceremony and have all the rights of a married couple...

Wow! Thank you for letting me know my posts still show up. I am going to be picking through them, salvaging what I can, and deleting the rest. I hope that when I delete the whole blog in a couple months, the readers quit showing them! Do you want in on my new blog? Just email me your wordpress username and I'll add you.

Hi LadyBanana,

Civil partnership, but they have all legal rights? We have Civil Unions, but it does not afford equal legal rights.

I'll tell you. If another republican gets elected this time, I'm moving to England or Canada. More peaceful, free health care, and gay marriage. ;o)

Hi Scott,

If you delete a post, or a blog it will still show up in the reader. One of my blog people deleted hers many months ago, and I still have her whole blog in my reader.

If I were you I would change my posts. Erase them, then put anything in, a word, or letter. Then wait a day to make sure they are all changed in the reader. After everything changes then delete the posts or blog. Even if you do that, everything you wrote can still be retrieved. There is a website you can go to. I won't mention the name here, but you can get back blogs, and other documents if they are over 6 months old.

I had trouble in the passed and called the police. I asked them if someone could delete something written on the net forever. He said that nothing is really deleted from the net.

Just do your best to delete it, but understand that he/she might still be able to see what you wrote.

Best of luck. I will pray for your safety.

I defiantly want to keep in touch so will e-mail you about your new blog soon. ;o)

Interesting interview, I just wish she allowed him to say a little bit more.

Hi Debo Hobo,

I think that she gave him time, he just seemed to run out of things to say. In fact he was on for most of the show, and took questions from the audience too. For the most part he was fast on his feet, and had a good sense of humor. It will be strange to watch Obama, and McCain in a debate because their styles are so different.
