What would you say to your doctor if...?

I'm finally reaching out for help with depression & anxiety. In a few days I will talk with my doctor about it. I suspect a hormone, or chemical imbalance of some kind. It's a free clinic and need to ask for specific tests. Unfortunately, I don't know much about depression & anxiety. What specific tests do you think I should ask for?

Wow! I really need to get educated on this stuff and fast. Do you know of any good books on the subject, especially depression? Right now it's the depression that I have to reduce in my life ASAP. It is kicking my butt.

My anxiety is related to my OCD. He did an OCD questionnaire. Turns out I have severe OCD which is now under control with lexapro.

Good luck! I hope you get some answers!

testing for chemical imbalences is a good place to state.talking to the doctor about what is happening to you is an other good starting point.Just be prepaired to be told that there is nothinh wrong with you physically, but need to be on smoe type of medicine. That will be a trial and error.

I agree, checking for a physical/chemical reason for how you are feeing is a good place to start but as mike says don't be surprised if they say its all come back normal. Ask for a full blood including haemoglobin/iron levels. as hard as it will be, try and be as honest as possible with the dr that way they can help you as best as they can

Having just been thru most of the tests I am happy to help in any way I can, but at the moment, I am not ready to go public about such things, so please feel free to email me in private any time at poshtottyspalace@gmail.com

Well I wish you health and good luck- That sort of thing runs in my family although I am not depressed. What I can tell you is it is hard sometimes for them to get the right combination of medication to work sometimes, but it is better to get treatment then to go it alone.
