Before You Use Your Real Name...

Before you use your real name on your blog, read this partial post entry from Speedy Hollydale Page ...

Here is the thing, if you use your real identity EVER anywhere on the net, you are crazy. Just don't do it. We could go on all day about copy writes, personal privacy issues, and how we all "OWN" what we write on our blogs and other media sources, but truth is once you hit enter, your content is everywhere and recorded by much more than Google or Facebook. Think you have a private blog that is not searched by bots?? Think again. I could publish something, erase or alter it, but feeds and readers will have already captured every word. FOREVER. There is not privacy on the net, and there never was. I will say again ..... do not use your real identity or true address anywhere - anytime.

Thanks Speedykins for letting me use this good info! ;)

Doesn't matter what you do on your blog, if you have a telephone number, an address, your information is on the Internet. If you have ever received anything form the government, including your Income Tax Refund .. you are on the Internet. You can be searched by your driver's license. No one can hide except the criminals.

Believe it or not, they can even look through your house and see what you are doing ... there are no secrets, and if we think so, we just lying to ourselves. There are just things we don't care to know.

Your ISP gives more information than your blog. Your name and address have to be listed, no matter what .. if you are on the internet, you are tagged, so why try and hide. I just enjoy the fun.

PS: I have discovered that if you have a Website and your current address is not listed you can lose your web site. How you like them apples!

Hi Amias,

"Your ISP gives more information than your blog. Your name and address have to be listed." I didn't know that! If I'm allowed, I use a bogus name & address when I sign up places. I don't think that the average person knows how to get a name and address out of an ISP.

Hey Speedy, Got your ears on? Do you have any comments to this?

What does an ISP have to do with a blog or Facebook?? If you are being tracked by big brother or the FBI ... I can see the ISP argument, but that is not what we are talking about.

This is about social media. Sure, you could do all kinds of searches with my name ... but what is it??

THAT is the point. Try looking for "me", good luck. To understand that what we do and write is monitored, is not relevant. The key issue is not "being able to search out someone", it is "who" to search.

Amias (ljm and liquidplastic) said...

Dear Awake, I am not debating this issue .. I am just sharing what I have discovered from experience.

Your computer is assigned an ISP. When you register your software, or set up any email address, no matter how phony your name is, this ISP follows you. It's in your Email, and it doesn't take a genius to find it. Just look at the information that in your average email, and there it is. From there it's easy to find anyone.

An ISP has everything to do with everything .. doesn't matter if it's a facebook or blog, your ISP follows you everywhere, as it is the way all companies on the internet identify you .. just like your social security number let the government identify you.

Now one doesn't have to work for the CIA or FBI to know this, all it takes is common sense!

As for me, I don't have the time to try and search for folks because it's not that important to me ... after all, if you want to wear a mask, you should be able to .. but it's all an illusion because there are no secrets, just lies.

Are we reading the same thing?

What you are talking about is figuring out who the writer of a blog is. You may be able do do that ... and I challenge you to do so, but 99.9 percent of the general public could not.

This is NOT the point though - and it is "all about search engines" that is what we are talking about ... being searched

You can easily read a mile long list of what Speedcat Hollydale said. If I am applying to a job, or in a court case ten years from now, nobody will be searching Speedcat Hollydale because they do not know I am .. or was, Speedcat Hollydale.

I understand what ISP's are and what you can learn from them, but that has nothing to do with search engines. My argument for not using your real identiy is because EVERYTHING you write does not come up when someone searches for you.

To be specific, I am talking about what comes up when you Google your own name. That's it ... and it is important to know what you are doing on line affects the "name search" outcome.

We must have some kind of communication barrier.
