Networking Google Blogger Tip & Remodeling Update

About two months ago I tried a different way of networking. Google Blogger had recently come out with their "Follow this Blog" reading list. (look to your left, please click and join me!) I thought I'd follow the Blogger reading list trail. I clicked on one icon from a blog buddy, which lead me to another, & another, so on. If I came to a dead end, I would just double back. Of course being the choosy type, I looked over the persons profile & blog first to see if we might match. Then I left a comment, and added my name to their "follow this blog" list. I was pleasantly surprised when most of the people returned comment. In fact some are becoming regulars to my blog &, visa versa. I'm a bit slow to update my Blog Roll, but it should triple in size soon! ;o)

Remodeling Update - I took a breather from remodeling for awhile, but need to finish. It's about 90% done, but I'm stuck. I'm trying to find a Blogger compatible mail box icon that links directly to my e-mail. I'm also looking for a Blogger "Top Commenters" list that links individuals listed to their blogs. The one that I've seen does not work correctly. The count is off. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Remember they have to be Google Blogger compatible. By the way, I will be taking the "Political Non-Partisan Sites" list down soon. If interested you might want to bookmark the links.

So what do you think of the remodeling so far? Is there something that you would really want to see that I don't have? I am open to suggestions. ;o) Thanks!

I like. I think it looks great but I'm fond of this particular template, as you know, since it's the one I use - only I just have the one sidebar. I tried 2 but I'm widget crazy and with 2 sidebars it was insane, LOL!

I think it's looking great! I wish they had the "followers" thingie for Wordpress. The closes thing is MyBlogLog, but it just seems not enough people belong to it to really make it worthwhile.

By coincidence, I mentioned my request in the previous post! I can't see that pale blue colour, and being me, I can't remember where it is, so I end up scrolling up and down looking for it every time ;O)

Mike Golch,

I haven't counted how may people are following mine. I go more by regular Commenters. They're the ones who are truly interested.

Drowsey Monkey,

Oh, so that's why I really like the look of your blog. tee hee.

The template I had before was beginning to look messy. I think this looks much neater & more organized. Now if I could just transfer it to my real time life. lol

Hi Giggle Pixie,

I keep forgetting about MyBlogLog. I'll have to visit more often. I just put a whole bunch of tags on it, and maybe I will make a difference.

Hi LadyBanana,

It works great! I really like it. I tried to get it, but it says that I have to pay $10 for it. Do you know of one that is free?

Hi Babs (Beetle),

Yes, I would love to get rid of the light blue color, but I don't know how. I don't know HTML. If you have any ideas let me know. Sometimes even I have to highlight it to see it.

I am leaving a comment today using my blogger account- instead of OOAWKI which is on wordpress. I think on one of my blogspot blogs is the comment widget you are looking for. I am thinking what you are looking for is something like the comment widget on my blog smart not cheap or go to the bottom of my blog vintage jewelry pics- there is a comment widget all the way at the bottom- There you can click on it to get that widget. I don't know if these help or not??? Just go to my profile click on either of those two blogs and then find the comment widgets and if you like them click on get them.

Hi Michelle Gartner,

Thanks! I'll give it a look. Do you know if it is accurate?

I use my keen sence of intuition to know when new posts are published.

Like a blogging mind meld ... that and my brain is hard wired to the Shoal mainframe.

Nurse Amanda Hugankiss,

YIPPIE! Thanks! Your the bestest nursie!

Awake In Rochester said...

Doctor Shoal,

Wow! You also must have used you commenting mind meld on Nurse Amanda Hugankiss because your comments came in at the exact same minute. How did you do that Doctor? A tad scary.

It still loads fast, and the actual posts are still easy to find. That's what counts for me. In other words, you didn't break it!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi dmarks,

LOL! I know what you mean. It's very frustrating when it takes forever for a blog to load, or worse yet your computer freezes up on you. Some people have way to many posts, or widgets that they turn slow computers away. But who's going to read all those wonderful posts if they can't even get in the door? They'd be wiser to make their blogs more accessible. I've been trying to comment all evening, and I'm frustrated. I'm ready to take a few blogs out of my reader that aren't user friendly.

dmarks said...

Have you found any of those blogs with the nasty "snap" or other popups? When you go to click on the comments link, or other links, a popup appears preventing you from clicking on the link. If you dodge your mouse around like a videogame, trying to avoid the popup by moving real fast, you might defeat it and get the hyperlinks to work,

Not only that, but the snap/etc popups appear to be totally useless.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi LadyBanana,

I wasn't able to get it. The only thing that I could get is the link at the bottom. Not the Top Commenters itself. I tried several times. odd!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi dmarks,

I have a popup blocker by firefox so I don't get popups.

As a techno-phobe I have no advice to give.I am still stumbling about on my own blogs just trying to look semi-respectable in the blogosphere. Your "bells and whistles" version is great though!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi twofinches,

I think that your doing good! Many of the "bells & whistles" I took from other blogs. I'm not good at technical stuff either so it takes me hours to get a wedgie to work. I'm stuck right now on a few things. But I'll get it sooner or later. lol

I like what you have done. :)

Thank you!

I'm beginning to feel shortchanged. Ages ago when I started blogging, I looked at Blogger but signed on with Typepad, for reasons I can no longer remember. But I'm not sure Typepad has cool stuff like this. Or is it that I'm just too technologically challenged to find out/pursue? Though you tried to explain Twitter to me once, I still don't think I understand it.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Tom,

I don't know anything about Typepad, but Blogger does have a lot of Bells & whistles that are fun. I don't know much about tech, but have picked it up a bit. It probably takes me 10 times as long as someone experienced, but I eventually figure it out.

Twitter is a social network. Have you used AOL, or Yahoo messenger before? It's kind of like that but your messages have to be 140 key strokes at the most. I feel a greater sense of community there. At first it was hard to get use to, but now I love it.
