McCain Picks a Women for VP - Gov. Sarah Palin

John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has just picked a woman to be his running mate for Vice President!!! McCain's pick is Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. McCain just made it more difficult for Obama to win. Some Democrats who voted for Hillary, and felt slighted by Obama having chosen a man, might defect to McCain.

After a wonderful Democratic Convention it seemed like Barack Obama might be unstoppable. But McCain's pick has just made life more difficult for Senator Obama.

History was made when Sen. Obama officially became the first African American presidential nominee. History will be made again due to McCain's choice. As a women I am elated. No matter who wins, a female will become a Vice Presidential nominee. Personally I would love to see a female V.P., but not at the expense of the country. Not for 4 more years of Bush like policies. Not for a prolonged war in Iraq. Not for more bloodshed. It's to high of a cost. I will still vote for Obama.

McCain has just rocked the boat! NOW we have a real race folks. Finally McCain can say that he is the candidate of change with some credibility.

CORRECTION - Gov. Palin is the second female vice presidential candidate on a major party ticket, and a first for the GOP. The first female vice presidential candidate was Geraldine Ferraro. Silly me! I remember her. Still, this is major news!

If your wondering who the heck is Gov. Sarah Palin click here for wikipedia and a news article profile.

do you really need to ask why?

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi meleah rebeccah,

Oh, you must be frighten because Obama didn't pick Hillary, or at least a women. But McCain had the good sense to pick a women, thus taking some votes Obama. Is that why your frightened?

Excuse me while I watch the Republican Convention. ;o)

Its going to be interesting to see the impact Sarah Palin makes - thats if they leave her family alone. I wrote a post on this on my blog. Feel sorry already for her family - I hope she stands firm.

Hi Lilly's Life,

Welcome to my blog!

I agree with Sen. Obama. Families should be off limits.

I just called the Republican Office to see if anyone had started a Women for McCain group here. Evidently not. I would love to be involved in getti*ng Sarah into the Vice Presidential position! Anyone hear of anything or interested in starting something? My problem is that I am a Canadian living in this wonderful country so cannot give money or vote...so I need to do soemthing to alleviate my helplessness. I am so thrilled by the Republican ticket! Too bad Obama decided to go status quo...he's going to regret

Hi meleah rebeccah,

I was just trying to draw you out a bit so that you would voice your opinion.

Gov. Palin seems very determined which could be good, or she could be stubborner like Pres Bush. Frankly I'm not sure yet.

Hi twofinches,

Welcome!

It's good to hear form my Canadian neighbors. It amazes me how Canadians are in tune with what's happening in America.

Wow, if you called the Republican office and they can't help you, then I don't know what to say. They are the ones to call. The only thing that I can think of is going on eBay and getting a Palin lawn sign, shirt, or button. If you want others to know of your support.

I think that Sen. McCain made a very smart move in picking her.

I'm thrilled to have a women on the ticket, but will still vote for Obama. I agree more with his policy. My #1 reason for sticking with Obama is that he will get us out of Iraq faster then McCain. That will mean less bloodshed. So for me it is literally a matter of life and death.

Well, have fun watching the election. I think things are really heating up, and it might be a close race after all.

"McCain has just rocked the boat! NOW we have a real race folks. Finally McCain can say that he is the candidate of change with some credibility."

McCain showed INCREDIBLE lack of credibility by selecting a PERSON who is being investigated for abuse of power, who is more anti-gay than Bush (which should frighten the bejeebers out of YOU), lied in her speech about "earmark" money, opposes women's reproductive choices while EXERCISING said choice in her own family, etc., etc., etc.

Any woman who thinks that Palin is a good choice just because she's a woman needs to take a step back and think about the logic.

Palin frightens me -- and McCain's recent outright LIES about her (and incredible, untrue embellishments on her record), coupled with Palin's political stands should scare the hell out of this entire country.

And, to "bait" people with comments like Oh, you must be frighten because Obama didn't pick Hillary, or at least a women. But McCain had the good sense to pick a women, thus taking some votes Obama. Is that why your frightened" only serves to make me wonder if that, in fact, is the only reason you support Palin -- the fact that she has breasts and a vagina.

Look at what's inside her BRAIN!

Hi Pat,

It's good to see you. It has been awhile.

First of all I wrote this post just minutes after she was accepted, and didn't know much about her past, or politics.

Secondly I am still thrilled that a woman is on the ticket, but that doesn't mean that I agree with her policies, or that I want her to win. Like I said, "Personally I would love to see a female V.P., but not at the expense of the country. Not for 4 more years of Bush like policies. Not for a prolonged war in Iraq. Not for more bloodshed. It's to high of a cost. I will still vote for Obama."

Since half of our county is female, if we are truly equals then ideally 50% of women should be doctors, 50% of women should be lawyers, 50% of women should be CEOs, and 50% of women should be running for and holding political office. That does not mean that I will agree with their policies, or will vote for them. But it does mean that there are more cracks in that glass ceiling because she is on the ticket. And that is why I am trilled!

Thirdly you might be right in that my comment to my cyber friend meleah may have been inappropriate. It was just trying to coax her to back up her generalized statement.

did you know that Sara Palin HATES gay people? Did you know that she has an 80% approval rating because she only has 9000 people in the town she was in charge of?

Cynthia said...

Excuse me fellow females. While you abhor the fact that Sarah Palin hates gays (a fact I dispute)it is obvious that you hate pro-lifers. In Canada I was a proud member of Pro_Life Feminists. Every bit as feminist as the rest but simply seeing abortion as a way for men to once again abdicate all consequences of sex...the woman is left to bear the brunt (physically and emotionally) If she is lucky the man hands her some money to "solve the problem" then he goes off to life as usual. Let us not pretend that a woman does not suffer through that decision and the aftermath (granted, some more than others)The early feminist movement was VERY anti-abortion. Do your homework. As a Christian, daughter of a pastor and believer in Christs message, I have far greater things to be concerned about in this world than which sex a person chooses to partner with! Again if you research a true info site (not a hate mongering one) you will find that Sarah is far more liberal in her views of same sex benefits than a lot of Republicans are comfortable with. I agree with her. Same sex partners need to be able to share benefits. A civil law binding ceremony is essential for Gays to feel secure. Your vitriol is off putting. The tone of the original blogger was such that I was hoping that all women...republican/democrat, straight/gay/, left/right, pro/life/pro-choice could voice their opinions here and feel safe doing so. Was I right?

Cynthia said...

Oh and Meleah Rebeccah

Sarah Palin began as a mayor of a town of 9000 but for the last two years has been GOVERNOR of Alaska where she does enjoy an 86 % approval rating. I can only take arguments seriously that are based on actual fact.

Thanks

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi meleah rebeccah,

I'm glad that your back. I was just trying to draw you out so you would expound on your statement. I'm sorry if I have offended you.

If I had an 80% approval rating in a town of 9000 people I would think that was fantastic! But your right in that it's a town, and not a big city that she has governed. But still, that's 80% among 9,000? WOW! She has done something right.

"Sara Palin HATES gay people?" Hate is a strong word. Wait a minute. I'm reading about it now and getting conflicting(?)(or at lest confusing) reports. This is what I was talking about in my latest post.

1) This is from logcabin dot org. A Republican pro-gay organization. The president of the organization Patric Sammon said, "...Gov. Palin is an inclusive Republican who will help Sen. McCain appeal to gay and lesbian voters."

2) But the AP says..." Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer...(She)opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples...early in her administration she supported a bill to overrule a court decision to block state benefits for gay partners of public employees."

I don't get it. How can the Log-cabin Republicans support her? How can the Pres. refer to her as a "inclusive Republican?" I don't get it!?

Anyway, like I said in this post, "Personally I would love to see a female V.P., but not at the expense of the country. Not for 4 more years of Bush like policies. Not for a prolonged war in Iraq. Not for more bloodshed. It's to high of a cost. I will still vote for Obama."

Hi twofinches,

Welcome back!

Yes, I like people to voice their opinions. We have had good discussions in the past, in fact I just finished one with a cyber friend of mine in another post. We didn't see eye to eye. As long as people are kind & respectful to each other it's cool.

I'm confused by your statement. Just because someone is pro-gay doesn't mean that they hate pro-lifers, nor does it mean that they are pro-choice. I'm not following your logic on that.

Ok, concerning gays. What do you believe is Palin's position? What I wrote a few comments before to Meleah, is from the Associate Press which is suppose to be reputable. Do you have some other information? I was confused as to why the president of Log-cabin Republicans was in support of her.

Hey, your a PK! Preachers kid. Cool!

I just reread your last post & looked at your profile. Are you a Canadian who is now living in Rochester?

Cynthia said...

Yes I am living in Rochester, have been for 5 years and I love America! I guess it really bugs me when a woman who is strong in every regard and yet does not believe that abortion is a valid option is immediately dragged down by the official women's groups as being unfit as a woman leader. As far as Palin and her gay views, I wish I could find the site again where I read of her inclusive views. Log Cabin is right ...Associated Press (who I distrust) is trying to paint Sarah as "typical " Republican and draw away form some indepndants who are going to see her as a great asset to McCain. Early on I was dazzled by Obama...and while still amazed by him I read his books. And you know what? He really hasn't done anything to prepare him to lead a country. That's not me being partisan. It's just true (from my point of view) I love debate and I like it when women allow each other the right to be pro-life or pro-choice and yet both remain full feminists. This is an interesting blog BTW.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi twofinches,

I know strong women who are pro-life, and strong women who are pro-choice.

I know Christian women who are pro-life, and Christian women who are pro-choice.

Now you know a Christian, Democrat, Pro-life, lesbian. I didn't set out to be complicated, but I kind of am.

Do you happen to be a Libra?

Thanks for the complement about my blog. I have a new post about Gov. Palin.

Cynthia said...

No ..I'm an Aquarius :) But I have spent my life conflicted so I know what you are talking about. It must have been quite the journey ending up where you are now. For my own self I try to stay as true to Christ's teachings as I can. That keeps me grounded. I'll read your new entry later tonight.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi twofinches,

You spent my life conflicted? Should I ask?

The new post is very lite reading. ;o)

Oh dear. Please, not 4 years of a female Bush. Anyone stop to realize that Bush is responsible for the death of thousands of Americans & Iraqis, not to mention so many others?

Anyone wonder why the US economy is so bad? Why, could it be partially because a power mongering, connection hungering person was falsely put in power? just ask those in Florida whose votes apparently did not count.

Come on! Wake up!

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Anonymous,

It sounds like you haven't read much of my blog, or comments if you think that no one agrees with that.

You seem to be mistaking my enthusiasm about Sarah Palin's historic candidacy with my view on policy.

Anonymous,
You made me choke on my morning coffee. You do have a right to feel as you do about your own political leanings but please for God's sake stick with facts. President Bush is not a murderer and the election was not stolen. It is a common problem among left wingers who hang around with, and read only liberal books and articles (and right wingers who are exclusively friends with and readers of right wingers) Yes I am a conservative fiscally and socially. But I have gay and Lesbian friends and I know they deserve protection and rights as couples. I have long afternoon discussions with my Obama supporting friends who do not throw around the very old "stolen election" and the idea of the impeachment of Bush. To do so brings the whole conversation down to a school yard brawl.

OK I'm done :)

Hi twofinches,

It's good to see you again!

I looked at your profile, and it doesn't say much about you. I hope that you write some posts in your blog, I would like to visit you.

I think that I will step out of the way, and we will see if Anonymous is still listening or not.

Twofinches,

Thank you so much for telling me that I have the right to my own opinion. Here it comes.

On Easter Monday I watched the Bush family roll Easter Eggs and ironically that same day, the news announced that the death toll of American soldiers in Iraq had just reached 4000. Talk about choking on morning coffee.

Any leader who has the audacity to stand with his family smiling plastic smiles while so many families are grieving as a result of a war he decided to enter into with no valid reasons cannot possibly be in possession of a decent conscience.

Bush has the lowest popularity rating, yet highest deficit of any American President. These are the facts.

You also seem to make judgements as to people and decide for yourself how they think, what they read and what kinds of people they hang around with. Sounds like a great Republican.

Dear Awake

My comments were not directed towards your way of thinking. I have checked out your blog and only wish that everyone would be as sensible as you seem to be. The country would be so much better off that way.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for the unexpected complement. Uh, do I know you?

You did get a comment from twofinches should you care to reply.

I am not a Republican

But I am not Bush hater.

And, though I wish we were on the thresh hold of electing our first black president, Obama (in my opinion) is the wrong one.

And, just to add insult to injury, my boys each got one of those great wooden Easter Eggs from the White House lawn because America is allowed to rejoice in her freedom even at the same time as others are dying to keep us free.

I know that is not what you see as reality but it is my take on life.

There is room in my world for people from many backgrounds holding many views. What I don't like are useless arguements.

So we better stop while we are ahead hey?

Awake In Rochester said...

"Wooden Easter Eggs from the White House lawn." They are made of wood? Seem like they should be made of something else, at lest gold plated or something.

I wonder if the White House also has some of those highly decorated Easter eggs that they make in Russia. Those are way cool.

Anonymous said...

Twofinches,

You talk about your boys having White House eggs and how they are a symbol of being able to rejoice in freedom. How can you let them be part of such hypocrisy?

I'm pretty sure the families of those killed are not rejoicing in the freedom of grief, nor holding pieces of bullets and bombs that killed their loved ones.

And kindly do not tell me to stop what you consider a "useless argument", or do I not have the freedom to rejoice in my own opinion because you do not like it? I find your comment quite condescending.

Obama and his wife at least can relate to the ordinary person. Did you know that Michelle's father had MS and despite that he got up every day to go to work to support his family?

And did you know that Cindy McCain starting seeing John while he was still married?

Although families should not be part of the campaign, family background and upbringing shapes people. It doesn't take a genius to realize that.

Awake,

No, we don't know each other. I've never been to Rochester and do not live anywhere near there, so it's unlikely we've ever met.

I just appreciate your objective way of looking at things.

I think you are right on when you say that while it would be great to have a female VP, the country must come first - and Palin is not the one who should have that title - too much like Bush.

And the war must end. The costs, both financial and emotional, are way too high. Lives of the maimed will never be the same. Lives of people who have lost family members are forever changed in the most horrendous way possible.

As an aside, I do believe that you have had quite a bit of conflict in your life, but from what I read, I figure you are one of those people who deals with it and shoulders on. Working in the profession that you do automatically calls for compassion and you likely have a heightened sense of that due to your own conflicts. Plus, you remain true to yourself by not hiding your sexuality. And that honesty is something to be admired. People are people and that's it.

Awake In Rochester said...

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for the vote of appreciation.

Yes, I have had some conflict in my life, and I have somehow learned to deal with it up to a point. Maybe not deal with it very well, but I try.

I'm out to some people, but not at work. However, most of my family knows. I guess you could say that I'm semi-out.

Do you have a blog or a profile? If not, you might want to consider it. It's difficult to talk with people who are anonymous. Someone else could post a comment who is also anonymous, and I won't know if it was you, or someone different. It's difficult to follow.
