Grey's Anatomy: Lesbian Kiss, and Suicide

Grey's Anatomy - Lesbian Storyline

Did you see the Grey's Anatomy season final? If you didn't, don't worry, I won't revel a great deal here. Just my favorite, and lest favorite scenes.

My favorite scene was the kiss between Erica Hahn, and Callie Torres. (I'm predictable, ha?) I think Torres is hot!

My least favorite scene was between Meredith, and her shrink. Meredith had a revelation, and realized that when her mother cut her wrist it was to get attention. After all she was a "excellent surgical nurse", and would have cut her -----, if she meant it. (or similar words). I hate that scene for several reasons.

1) If someone tries to commit suicide they are not in a rational state of mind, and they might try to kill themselves by any means. It might not be the most logic means. It should be seen as a serious attempt, and not just an attention getter.

2) They mention a more effective way to commit suicide then cutting wrists. I hate that! I don't want to mention it. Oh, I knew it before, but someone not so familiar with anatomy and who saw the program might not have considered it. It might have given someone who is suicidal a deadly idea. You've heard of copy cat murders? Well, I'm sure that there are copy cat suicides. Well, at least Meredith didn't point to the area.

Did you know that the suicide rate in the U.S. is twice as large as the homicide rate? (There are an estimated 8-25 attempted suicides to one completion.) It is hidden, a stigma is still attached. I mean, when is the last time you read the obits, and saw that someone committed suicide? It's all swept under the rug.

Hi Meleah Rebeccah,

Yes, think of all the town meetings, protests, and picketing, that is due to homicide rates. Yet people don't realize that their loved one is twice as likely to die from a self inflicted wound. I just updated the post and added- "There are an estimated 8-25 attempted suicides to one completion". That's a great deal of people who try to do themselves in. Sounds like the problem has taken on epidemic proportions.

This is always a tricky subject. Tread lightly they say don't want to push anyone over the edge.

Aren't we all just a little suicidal, it may not be as dramatic as the more commonly known methods? But we all do things that are hastening us to the grave well before or prescribed time. The suicidal tools in disguise are smoking, drinking, daredevil actions, unprotected sex etc.

When I was in school, a classmate tried to kill herself by slashing her wrists. Fortunately, she was unsuccessful.

The scary/sad thing is, her doctor actually told her how she should have done it to be effective!

It's one thing to mention it on TV, but what kind of an idiot would tell someone who just tried to kill herself how she should have done it!

And doctors wonder why people don't trust them...

Hi Debo Hobo,

I'm not sure if people who do those things are suicidal. Some see it as just enjoying life. Others might have tried smoking, or drinking, etc., and got hooked. I think it has to do more with the intention of the heart. Maybe a percentage is suicidal, but I don't think that most of those people would be happy to hear from a doctor that their life is cut short by their actions. On the other hand I think that a small percentage may be playing Russian roulette with their lives on purpose. It think it depends on the persons intention.

As for me, I would love to go skydiving one day. It doesn't have anything to do with suicide, unless I forget my parachute. ;o)

Hi dcr,

That's horrible! I hope that she switched doctors.

I had a friend who had a partner that tried to commit suicide. The partner was a nurse, and took some over the counter medication. My friend didn't think it was a serious attempt because it was a common OTC med, and the partner was a nurse who "knew better". I looked up that OTC med in a drug book, and found out that in large doses it could be fatal. I informed my friend that the nurse/partner had taken the right med for a suicide attempt, and to take it seriously. The nurse was bipolar too.

Hi LadyBanana,

Grey's is one of my favorite shows, even before the lesbian involvement. I can relate to some of the characters as they figure out life. I often cry while I watch the show because some things really hit home.

Glad you liked the video. Honey, we need to talk... just joking. ;o)

Wow, you must have some very high buildings in your area. Did they do something about suicide prevention? Any guards, or fences?
